Step 01
Connect your agent
Sign up free at codata.io and copy your MCP address from onboarding. Add it once to Claude, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, ChatGPT, Lovable or Replit, then log in to Codata IO when prompted:
https://mcp.codata.io/mcp
Step 02
Paste the starter prompt
Starter prompt · what to build
Build an internal inventory dashboard for [business type, e.g. a small coffee roaster]. Use the codata MCP server for the backend. Create tables for products (name, SKU, category, unit cost, reorder level), stock movements (product, quantity in/out, date, note) and team members (name, role). Use Codata IO sign-in so only my team can access it. Admins can edit products; staff can only log stock movements. Screens: a dashboard with total stock value, low-stock alerts and a chart of movements over 30 days; a products table with search and filters; a form to log stock in/out. Seed 10 realistic sample products so I can test.
Design layer · keep it in the same prompt
DESIGN (follow exactly) Style: a clean SaaS dashboard: neutral grays, one accent color, and amber used only for low stock. Layout: left sidebar (Dashboard, Products, Log stock, Team) and a top bar with search and the user menu; on mobile the sidebar becomes a bottom menu. Dashboard: 3 KPI cards at the top (Stock value, Low-stock items, Movements this week), a 30-day bar chart, then a "Needs reorder" list. Products: a table with a sticky header, search, a category filter, sortable columns and an amber "Low" badge. Log stock: a short form in a side panel with product search, a +/- quantity stepper and a "Saved" toast. Staff only see the screens they're allowed to use. Colors: off-white background, white cards with soft 1px borders, near-black text, and ONE accent color: [your brand color, e.g. #2F5BFF] for buttons and highlights only. Type: one clean sans-serif (e.g. Geist or Plus Jakarta Sans), 16px body text, generous line spacing. Use Tailwind with shadcn/ui components. Add empty, loading and error states, and make every tap target at least 44px. Build the main screen first with these exact specs and show it to me. After my OK, connect it to Codata IO.
Step 03
Add one feature at a time
Follow-up · bring your spreadsheet
Add a CSV import so I can upload my existing spreadsheet into the products table, store the file in Codata IO, and add a CSV export of current stock.
Follow-up · Monday report
Set up a Codata IO scheduled task that emails me every Monday at 8am with the products below their reorder level.
Step 04
Go live
Launch prompt
Check that every page needs sign-in, staff can't edit products, and no keys are in the code. Remove the sample products, then deploy on Codata IO hosting and give me the URL to share with my team.
Pro tip
Business changes, so will the tool. Add a field or a whole new table by describing it: Codata IO extends the backend with no migrations, and your data stays put.
